Rubbermaid Large Deck Box   Review Date: June 23, 2009 Reviewer: Robert Welch, Cape Cod, MA This deck box was given as a gift to the person who convinced me to buy the Extra Large Deck Box for my seasonal campsite at least 2 years ago. He was correct that Rubbermaid would last without incident and not fade or weather. It is super strong with easy assembly. The seat of the deck box holds the weight of more than one person and has been level enough to be used as a pedestal for our outdoor TV viewing at the campground. At this point, I am so satisfied with Rubbermaid that I am looking into purchasing some type of upright storage locker or shed to hold my bicycle. I looked at all the childrens toy boxes and they were all pretty small. I even bought the biggest one I could find off the the Amazon website. It is a good size for a child's toy box but to hold all of his stuff I would need at least 3 or 4 more. This Deck box was my toy storage solution. It works great. It looks great - I really like the dark color - you usually find tans and light grays. It was even easy to put together - you do need two people - one person to hold the long sides up while a "big" person uses thier wieght to snap them into the base. Then the short sides slide in and then they need to be snapped. I do not know if this deck box is waterproof because mine is indoors but from the look of it I would have to say "NO". This price also made me happy and Free Supersaver Shipping was great. I had my Deck Box in about 1 week after putting in the order. Delaney, Sedona, AZ I've already got a couple of Rubbermaid storage units, and while the reviews for this one were mixed, went ahead based on my previous experience. it was relatively easy to assemble. A couple of bits on the base that had to be punched out made me work for it, but I won! And to get the sides to really fit flush, had to sit on the thing. The top required an extra pair of hands. Now, is it waterproof? To me, that means you could throw it into the pool and it would float. That wouldn't happen. You can look down into this and see the ground through the openings where the sides snap in. You are protected from rain and spray, but if water were to get deep enough on the deck (or it falls into the pool), water will get in. That also means spiders or ants or lizards can climb up into the space. For my use, that is of no consequence, but some might find it a negative. I'm storing garden stuff - Large pots, wall-o-waters, miscellaneous stuff that was just a messy pile in the back yard. This is PERFECT. It holds a tremendous amount keeping the area looking neat. and it makes a good place to sit and relax and enjoy the garden. At 230lbs, it almost seems to be too flimsy when you first sit down, but it isn't. No sagging, denting, or other problems so far. Know the other Rubbermaid products I own withstand our Arizona sun and high temps, so have no doubt this will too. It blends in, colorwise. BUT IT IS BIG! So don't get it if you are looking for something discreet, that will be unobtrusive.
